What Is a Chase Cover?
A chimney chase cover (also called a chase top) is the metal cover that sits on top of the outer structure — or chase — of a prefab or factory-built fireplace system. It protects the inside of the chase from rain, snow, and debris. When the cover rusts through or fails, water pours directly into the chase — causing rust, rot, and significant structural damage.
