What Is an Ash Dump Door?
Ash dump doors available. An ash dump door is the small cast iron or steel door located in the floor of the firebox — in front of or in the center of the grate area. When opened, it allows ash to be swept down into the ash pit below, keeping the firebox cleaner and easier to maintain. A warped, broken, or missing door creates a cold air infiltration point and allows insects and rodents access to the firebox through the ash pit.
